Safety Tips for Homeowners
üStore away all valuables safely as not all the people you show your home to will actually be buyers. Prescription medications need to be stored safely too.
üBeware of buyers who want to look at your home at odd times of the day or night.
üMaintain a guest register. You don’t have the luxury of a real estate professional; who has interviewed and qualified a buyer before letting them enter your home. Keep track of who comes in to your home.
üHave someone with you at any time you are showing your home.
üDo not take in people who just knock on your door. Make sure you only take in people who have previously scheduled an appointment.
üAlways position yourself next to the nearest exit when showing interior rooms.
üHave someone call you during the showing and after to check your status.
üAlways carry your phone with you.
üMake a mental note of your visitor’s vehicle description.
üDon’t let your children make appointments to show the property when you are not home.
üDon’t tell a caller where your extra key is just because they say they are a Realtor.
üAlways use your cell phone number in any advertising. If you use a home number and someone calls they will know when you are not home.
üAlways let the buyer walk in to a room ahead of you. Stand by the door as they look around.
üCommon sense goes a long way. If you feel uneasy about someone don’t show them your home.
